Mālamapōkiʻi

Mele Mural - Ua hana maika'i 'oukou!

“Eö Kanu! Such a proud moment for our community!” These words from Kaÿiulani Pahio so aptly express the feelings of all of us at KANU. What a remarkable achievement for our haumäna to lead our community on this wonderful journey. One picture is worth a thousand words. Ua hana maikaÿi ÿoukou!

Our sincerest congratulations and mahalo to all who had a part in leading this project and to all who provided manpower, resources and prepared nourishment for the workers.  Kudos to Kumu Kanoa and his student team, who organized, fund-raised and coordinated this event. They were tireless in pursuing their vision. Mahalo to the Estria Foundation and Kahilu Theatre for their part in making this dream a reality as well as the entire community and cultural practitioners that provided their expertise, guidance and support. Thismemorable event is likely one that KANU haumäna or the Waimea community will never forget. We have so much to be grateful for.

We are pleased to welcome parents and guardians to parent/student/teacher student-led conferences today. The haumäna have been eagerly preparing their portfolios and practicing their presentations so you will be able to see how hard they have worked throughout the year. This is a time for them to put their best foot forward for the people that mean the most to them, their parents, grandparents and guardians. It is an honor for them to host you.

We want to give you a heads up that there is a change in our calendar in April. There will be no school for students on Friday, April 11th to enable kumu to participate in a two-day professional development training on the 11th and 12th . We will remind you of this change again when school resumes after spring break.

We want to remind our KANU ÿohana that new student applications for SY 2014-15 have been extended to March 31, 2014. We welcome all keiki born in 2010 and turning five by December 31, 2015 to apply to KANU. Keiki will be placed in programs appropriate for their age. Our Mälamapökiÿi Early Education Program allows for seamless transition into KANU’s regular education programs without need to re-apply.

HAVE A SAFE AND RESTFUL SPRING BREAK! See you on March 31st.
