New Zealand born, and internationally acclaimed songstress Maisey Rika, along with her brother JJ, spent most of the afternoon today on campus with our students.
In the morning, the entire student body was able to attend a special performance by Maisey, for a few local schools from North Hawaii and Hamakua areas. After the performance, Maisey came to Kanu for lunch, and a short sit-down "talk-story" session with a small group of Kanu elementary and high school students. She sang a few of her songs, one of which was brand new and had not been released as of yet, and she answered questions from our students in this intimate gathering. Questions ranged from: "How did you start singing?" to "How many countries have you performed in?" Throughout the entire day Maisey signed autographs, stopped for photoʻs, and answered questions from our haumana.
After her "talk-story" Maisey was able to join in the closing protocol to end the school day and with tears in her eyes she expressed in her native Māori language, gratitiude for our Mauna, our keiki, and for the opportunity to be here at Kanu with them today.
Mahalo Nui Loa Maisey!
